OpenAI has expanded its affordable AI subscription plan, “ChatGPT Go”, to 16 countries in Asia, including Bangladesh. The monthly subscription costs less than $5, making advanced AI more accessible to users in the region.

Countries Where ChatGPT Go Is Available

The service is now available in: Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, East Timor, and Vietna

Some countries, like Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, and Pakistan, can pay in local currency. Other users will pay approximately $5 USD per month, though final pricing may vary depending on local taxes.

Double memory compared to the free version, providing more personalized and context-aware responses

Growth and Competition

OpenAI reports that weekly active users in Southeast Asia have quadrupled recently, driving this expansion. The plan was first launched in India in August 2024, followed by Indonesia in September. After launching in India, OpenAI’s paid subscribers doubled.

ChatGPT Go directly competes with Google’s AI Plus, which offers access to Gemini 2.5 Pro and creative tools for image and video creation. Google’s plan has expanded to over 40 countries, providing features like Flow for design, Whisk for image remixing, VIO 3 Fast for video, and 200GB cloud storage.

Future Plans: ChatGPT as a Platform

During DevDay 2025 in San Francisco, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced that ChatGPT has now reached 800 million weekly active users.

OpenAI plans to transform ChatGPT from a simple chatbot into a platform-like ecosystem, similar to an app store. Users will soon be able to use apps from Spotify, Zillow, Coursera, and more directly within ChatGPT, for writing, coding, and other task
